This is a tuatara. There were lots of them at Rainbowsprings. There were kiwis and trout and some birds. We got to see one of Aitken’s eggs which was about to hatch . He is one of the kiwis on our recovery programme

Skiing Trip.

Last week we went to Mt Ruapehu .We stayed at Mountain heights lodge. We did most of the skiing on Thursday and a little on Friday. I didn’t like it much. Cameron went down the mountain in his t-shirt so now he has a cold. I spent most of my time on the chair lift. It was fun.

Speech Day.

On Wednesday we went to speech day at Makahu. Alice and Aaron did their speeches but I didn’t have to. The speeches were good and afterwards we did a fire safety thing. They showed us how to put out pot fires and they also showed us what happens if you put water on them. They showed us the fire truck and let kids use the hose. They demonstrated how to use fire extinguishers. They day was great and so was lunch.

On Thursday the school got an award for kiwi stuff. Doc. gave as an award for helping find kiwis in our valley. It was ok. We went for a walk in the bush which was fun. Then we got the award and had afternoon tea. Then went home.

DILEMMA

Once I had a dilemma it was ether I go into town and get a choc bar or stay at home and play with Alice .I really wanted a choc bar but I really wanted to play with Alice. I went into town and saved some chocolate for Alice.

A few weeks ago a japanese lady came out here to teach us about Japan, Her name was Setsuko. We did origami and she taught us how to say a few words in japanese. She was really nice.

Kiwi

Yesterday we went to watch a kiwi release. There were two kiwis and heaps of people. When we got there they were showing everyone the trap lines. Then more people arrived and then the kiwis. They took photos and let some kids hold the kiwis and pat them to. Then they put them back in the box and we all had afternoon tea. Matau and Toko were there and heaps of adults.

A Calculator
A calculator is something to help you solve maths problems.

A calculator is blue and has red buttons but not all of them are that colour.

A calculator has plastic buttons with numbers on it so when you push them numbers appear on the screen.

A calculator is mainly used in maths and since and sometimes to help adults count money.

I think that calculator’s r ok but sometimes they can be annoying.

The Eruption.

My name is Victoria and on 10th June 1886 I was living beside Lake Rotomahana near Mt Tarwera. I have just been offered a job at Mcraes Hotel.

In the morning the maoris weren’t peaceful. They seemed to be tense. I spoke a bit of maori so I asked a man what was wrong. He said that a ghost canoe had been seen and that everyone reckoned a great disaster was going to happen. I was shocked to hear this but I still cleaned my house as I normally would. I had two days to get settled in then I had to start work. I started to make my bed when I heard someone call my name. I went out and a little girl was sitting there. She had fallen over and got her foot stuck and needed my help in getting out. I started talking to her and asked her why everyone was worried. She said we were all going to die. I got her foot out and she went home.

That night I was asleep when I was woken up by a big bang. I rushed outside with the ground shaking and saw the mountain blow up. Stones were falling on my head and a great big fireball swept over the top of my hut. I screamed as my hut caught alight. I ran and fell over and pulled myself up. I was crying as stones hit my head .More fireballs flew over I saw a tree hit the ground and I ran. I ran to the next hut but it was on fire, I saw the hotel lights. It was really close but my feet were sticking in the mud. It took ages to get them free. I ran to a spot under some trees. My face was all cut and bleeding. Something whacked into my head and I fell to the ground. I was nearly unconscious. The stones were still hitting me and I could barely breathe. I wiped the mud off my face and crawled under the trees. As I hid I heard a whimper. I looked around and saw a shape. Suddenly I realised it was the little girl I had helped that morning. Her face had a big cut and she was crying. I picked the girl up and ran. Suddenly I saw a light and I knew it was guide Sophia’s house. I could just see people going inside.
I yelled in the girls ear and went inside the hut. I sat down and a lady came up . She was the girls Mum and took the girl away.

Later I found out that the girls name was Sophie and she was alright. I was given some stuff for my cuts. Just when a man went to rake stones of the roof I realised I was sitting on a boot. That’s why I was so uncomfortable. Then everyone came in from Mcraes Hotel. I saw two little girls come in. I went to sleep for a long time. I was awoken by bread being pushed at me. The stones were still falling but the fireballs had eased off. I needed to leave. My Mum had be going to move here that day and I knew she would be coming to look for me. I stood up and went to the door. I went out and heard a horse neighing. I went towards the noise with stones hitting my head. It was a big horse. It’s ankles were covered in mud and it was in pain as the stones hit it. I managed to get out. The stones suddenly eased off. So I decided I would go and look for my Mum. I heard someone calling me. I rode towards the noise. It was my mother. We decided that we would ride back to Rotorua together. We stayed at Mum’s house that night and had a good ong bath. In the morning after a good long sleep we heard people coming in from Tarawera. The eruption was over.

Drugs

On Tuesday the drug squad came out to Matau. They found heaps of marijuana. We got to go down and sit in the helicopter. Alice picked up a bit and stared waving it under my nose.
Midge, Alice’s dog came and we put her in the helicopter. When we went back to school Midge came back to and stayed all day.

School

Today is the first day of school and Mason is not here. So Dad is picking on me, If he doesn’t stop it I will hit him. In the holidays we went to Auckland. Janelle and Sjaan jumped of the sky tower and we went to Rainbows End.

Soccer Tournament

When we went to the soccer tournament I did not want to go. So when we started playing I did not do anything. On the last three games I did something and we won some off them.

Helicopter

Today a helicopter landed on the school hill. The boys went and played on it. I went and took the camera up so we could get some pictures. They were doing a civil defence exercise.

In the holidays I went to Mum’s for a few days. Then I went to Rueben’s all in the same week. When I got home Janine was cooking a roast for tea. Mason was playing with the Mansells, Anja and Cameron.

This term I want to improve my handwriting, spelling and maybe maths.

ANZAC DAY

In the holidays it was Anzac Day. We went to Taumarunui to drop Janelle off at the train station to go to Wellington. There was a band walking around town. There was people in uniform..

THE CAR

One morning me and Dad went into town. Dad was going too fast. We made it to town in record time. We lived just out of town. Dad wanted to pick up a motor bike part because he was making a motor bike.

Ten minutes later we were at a motor bike shop at the other end of town. Dad went in and got it. Dad said we had to go to the fruit store. Mum wanted some bananas. Dad turned the car on. There was a loud clunk. There was a funny smell.
One minute later the car was on fire. We went to get out. The car blew up. All I remember was hitting the ditch. I heard a scream. It was Dad. One hour later I heard Mum calling me. I woke up. I was in bed. It had been a dream.

We made huts up at school from the firewood and then we slept in them. We stayed up until midnight and had a midnight snack. I slept in a hut with Alice and Laura.

HOLIDAYS

For Christmas I got a puzzle, some gum, teddies, a game, and a toy dog. I liked Christmas. It was fun. We had lunch at our place. Then we went to Nanas for tea it was nice

Later we went to Wellington my big sister got a job there.
Now she is a nanny. And she is in a big city.

We went camping in the holidays. We went by the sea and the river was near us. Mason made a mud slide and same kids wrecked it. They went down and waled back up the slide it was annoying.

On the first day back at School it was the same. Dad bossed us around. I did not listen to him. I
Got bored in school. Same as usual .

CHURCH

Mum goes to Church with Ann. She likes it.I think it's interesting. There is an upstairs and Sunday School is up there. First you all go into one room and then the eights and up go into another room. It is sort of fun. I have gone once. It was strange.

Once I was walking on the school hill. All of sudden I fell. It hurt. It was dark. I was going for a picnic so I had food. I looked around. It was dark down there. I looked at the walls there were strange things on them. I turned round there was a skeleton there. I jumped so high that I went through the roof. I ran home. I told Mum and Dad. They told some people. Then we were rich.

Once I went for a walk. I went up a hill and down around a couple of trees and fell. My water bottle fell out. I went after it. I fell again. It was bright down there. Four more people were there.
" Hey come here"they said. They gave me a biscuit and I gave them a drink of water. They had rocks made to look like beds. They gave me one. I went to bed. When I woke up they were leaving. They said come with us. I went with them for 2 years. Then mum and dad found me.
